World Hoop Day – Washington DC

I hope you are well and able to share some hoop joy on World Hoop Day tomorrow!

The evening Tidal Basin hoop plan is on. This is a space which is not heavy with tourist traffic however this should allow for music and space and should avoid problems with security issues which are a concern at monuments.  Hooping.org has posted 8PM as the synchronized hoop time so 5:30 is just a rough start time.  You do not need a hoop or know how there will be both to share.

There seems to be interest in hooping by the monument which is a short walk away, we will see if that is trouble free…

For Metro:

From the Smithsonian Metro walk towards the Wash monument on Independence Ave. or the mall depending on the metro exit you take, turn left after passing 15th st and the Holocaust Memorial Museum, walk through the playing field and go towards the tidal basin ( be careful crossing the street).  We will be in the cherry trees near the open grassy area about in the middle of the parking lot.  ( Basically this is in a direct line between the White house and the Jefferson Memorial on the East side of the Tidal Basin).

For Drivers:  (Friday rush hour is a congested time so expect thick traffic)

Driving around the tidal basin turn into the paddleboat parking lot, there is a snack building and floats with the paddleboats.  Park on the right about 1/2 way (200yards) into the lot where trees boarder the grass area.  If you pass the lot entrance just keep going around the basin making right turns and you will loop around for a second try.  Tina B recommends ( thanks Tina!) printing this out in a big font if you are driving solo.

This should be a great area and time of day, sunsets over the water can be wonderful.  I will have music happening and at least water and a cooler with ice.  In regards to spreading the hoop love with free hoops I do not know the best way to help the hoops find the right people.  An idea here is to hoop in high traffic places durring the day like subway entrance/exits and to pass on hoops to those shy onlookers I once was.  Feel free to spread the word.  Also the next Pot Luck Rock Creek Hoop Happening will be Sunday September 21st at picnic site #9 on Beach drive, more info will be posted soon.
