Beyonce HulaHoops!

17 Nov

Beyonce hulahoops in a performance, and here’s the YouTube video to prove it. Amen!

Hoop Path Warrior Child

6 Apr

I found this video of a young girl hooping. She has the style influence of Baxter and the Hoop Path people. She’s a lovely hooper. If you feel inspired, as I do, know there will be a HoopPath workshop in Baltimore in late May. It’s open to hoopers of all skill levels.

Dang. The boy can hoop!

23 Oct

I was at this same event (PDF) and missed seeing this inspiring hooper, live. Darn. Well, yay for YouTube. This guy’s hand-hooping style rocks. Just ignore the sounds of the wind on the mic and enjoy the hooping.

The second vid is of the same hooper. This is called "poi hooping," by some.

Mesmerizing Hooper

This man’s style of hooping (and video editing and music selection) mesmerizes me. Enjoy!

Fire Hoop Master

25 Aug

This is Malcolm, an excellent hooper and member of Groove Hoops in NY. I saw him hooping at the NY Dcom party (not that I was Dcomming, per se … just that I was at the party), and he’s even better in person!

If anyone ever wants to book a fire hoop performer (or fire spinner), let me know. I have a number of friends in both the DC and Baltimore markets who do party gigs and such. Just make sure you keep your thinking cap on when planning your event: fire hooping has to be done at night (to be cool) and outdoors, to be safe.

Natasha !

14 Aug

Natasha is one of my favorite hoopers to watch. The vid quality here is so-so, but her dance style and hoop moves are still quite a treat to watch. Enjoy!

Hooping at Buffalo Jambalaya

2 Jul

My friend Rimas Blekaitis just sent this vid to me. We had both attended the 2006 Buffalo Jambalaya party at Camp Ramblewood. I show up at about 1:04 minutes, hooping.

In the vid, I’m approached by Vince, one of the best Zydeco dancers in the region, and I drop my hoop like a hot potato to dance with him!

If you're interested in Zydeco and/or Cajun dancing locally, go to Where We Go To Zydeco for a dance schedule, or check my del.icio.us tags for more info.

My favorite hooper

18 May

My sister Rebecca, who lives in the Bay Area, started hooping a couple weeks after I did and soon after took a hulahoop class from Hoop Girl. My sister’s birthday present to me, in 2005, was a bunch of 2-min hula hoop videos and a hand-made hoop. Little did we know, but that small video gift sent us both into the world of YouTube, Squidoo lenses and avid blogging, each in our own areas of expertise and influence.

So, without further ado, here is my favorite hooper and my super-fab sister, Rebecca.
