5 MarInfinite Sphere Hoop Workshop with Ann Humphreys
1 Feb
Joceyln Gordon posted a class: Infinite Sphere Hoop Workshop with Ann Humphreys of HoopPath (the full invitation is here):
- Sunday, February 20, 2011, 1 – 3pm
- Register now to secure your space: $45
- Gold’s Gym Arlington, VA
Exploring the Infinite Sphere In this workshop, our intention will be to more fully inhabit the sphere of potential movement that surrounds us at all times. The hoop will be our metaphorical and physical guide in this exploration. Working both on and off the core, we will discover new ways of using our hoops to orient us in space and time. Though the exercises–culled from some of the most inspired moments of Ann’s personal practice—will sharpen your technique, the focus of the workshop will allow you to free yourself from the quicksands of self-judgment and expectation that can keep us stuck in the sense of having nowhere to go with our hoops. We will remain open to all that the hoop has yet to reveal as we explore together.
What to Bring: Students will need to bring both a core and an off-body hoop.
Prerequisites: You should have at least 50 hours of flight time (actual time interacting with your hoop) and be comfortable hooping in both currents at the waist and shoulders*, as well as with off-body basics such as Point, Swing, and Weaves (see below for definitions of these moves).
Ann Humphreys apprenticed with HoopPath founder Jonathan Baxter for four years. This apprenticeship both grounded her in the HoopPath’s meditative curriculum and gave her the inspiration to discover new techniques and frames in her own practice. For the last year, she has been traveling and teaching her new material all over the US. Witnessing people remember how to dance using a plastic hula-hoop brings her inexpressible joy.
